Singer Asif, among others, becomes BCB director without a vote
Today was the last day for the withdrawal of nominations for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directorship election. The heat of the election has completely died down as 16 Tamim Iqbal supporters withdrew their nominations from the club category. The number of people elected unopposed has also increased. Singer Asif Akbar is one of them.
Six out of the 10 directorships in Category-1 have been elected unopposed. Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury and Asif Akbar from Chittagong division, Khan Abdur Razzak and Zulfikar Ali Khan from Khulna division, Rahat Sams from Sylhet and Shakhawat Hossain will be the director from Barisal.
This afternoon, the final candidate list was released at the BCB building by the returning officer in charge of the election, Dr. Sheikh Zubayed Hasan. The published list shows that there are now 15 candidates in Category-1. The biggest drop is in Category No. 2. There are 16 candidates as 13 people withdrew. Two are in the fray in Category-3 after one candidate withdrew.
Yesterday (Tuesday), the High Court suspended the councilorship of 15 clubs. Returning officer Zubayd said, “We have taken action as directed by the court. One candidate has withdrawn from that list.”
